One of the most important things that can be done to better your round of golf is certainly to improve your putting. While it might appear impossible, working to enhance a few small details on the short putt will considerably improve your abilities. These, and other, tips on putting will help.
You will, of course, need to practice to enhance your game. However the actual skills you will want to practice often vary from player to player. But, there are a few things that most everyone needs to specifically concentrate on to get the best round of golf possible.
The first skill is making sure your golf swing is correct so that you contact the golf ball exactly in the center of the club head. You just can't strike the golf ball from the side of the putter head and assume it will travel straight. It can seem that no matter how much time you practice, the ball just isn't going straight to where you want, and can result in a lot of frustration. But, stay with it, you'll get it.
Getting centered? Good. Now, move on to being sure you always strike the golf ball in a very straight line towards the target. If the head is not at exact right angles to the target, you won't go straight. And, obviously, the further the ball must go, the more off target it will become.
As most short putts are straight shots, work on getting this angle correct. The angle determines how straight the ball will go, and most men and women do not recognize when they are slightly off center from the actual target. But, even the slightest variation away from the particular target will mean a missed shot as well as an increased handicap.
This is actually a skill which you can practice within your office, or at home either by buying a small but effective putting device or simply placing a cup on the floor.
The weave or pattern of many carpets offer a slightly visible line you can try to shoot along. I find it helps considerably.
The final skill which requires concentration if you are hoping to improve your short putting skills will be ensuring that you're accelerating through the club head every time you will be coming into contact with the golf ball.
A lot of players make the error of slowing down the golf club just before they actually strike the ball. This will result in the loss of the energy that you need in order for the golf ball to make it all the way to the target. Ask a buddy to watch for this for you, as it can be very hard to spot in your own swing.
The importance of success in your short putting is simply a good set up,which means an exact right angle to the target, a dead center strike with a smooth straight swing. If you practice these three steps over and over again your game will improve.
